|
Santa Nero |
Harmless!!! Please don't kill! This little garden (milk) snake is not dangerous or venomous. It won't even bite when picked up, instead excreting a very stinky liquid and sometimes even playing dead. |
|
Cascabel |
Very rare! Protected and very shy, only aggressive if provoked. Warns you when you get too close. Even though this is a rattlesnake, due to no natural preditors on the island it's venom is relatively mild and not life threathening like their more famous relatives. |
|
Boa |
Very seldom seen, but is a huge treat to our fauna. An invasive species that can be aggressive and is best left alone. Let us know if you see one so that we can capture it and bring it to the park's rangers. |
Mammals
|
Cabritu |
Island goat, brought here by the colonist, this cute looking little creature is a local pest, because it devours any tiny bit of green left on our little already “desert like” island. We love them, but not in our yard, so if you see them in our garden, please help us to chase them out, ok? They can destroy the garden in minutes… |
|
Burico |
Very few left in the wild. A visit to the Donkey sanctuary is definitely recommended. |
Fish
Pests
Aruba is a tropical island, which means it has plenty of creepy crawly's you could encounter in and outside of your accommodation. There are a number of insects you might bump into, basically any where on the island, some harmless, others can have a nasty sting. The property is treated by Pest control once a month and we have bug-spray and anti repellent available for our guests. (under the sink, in the kitchen cabinet)
|
Scorpion |
A small light brown scorpion, which is very docile, only stings when extremely provoked and it's sting is no more then a bee sting. Non life threatening , no major health treat. Likes to hide in dark places, so always check your shoes before putting them on. One small blast of bug-spray and they’re dead. We like to catch them and release them in the park aways from the house, because they are no real threat. |
|
Centipede |
A very large dark brown centipede, very aggressive and can give you a very painful bite. Non life threatening, but very painful, so avoid it! Very sensitive to bug-spray and just a small amount kills it. Do not try to catch this insect, it is very fast and vicious. A good hard knock on the head with a shoe or a blast of bug-spray is all that it needs to be destroyed. |
|
Lebbe Lebbe |
Especially after long periods of drought and after a big rain shower, Aruba’s vegetation immediately starts blooming and tiny fruit flies come out in swarms. They don’t sting, but are a real nuisance and there isn’t much you can do to repel them.Best thing is to close off the house, set the ventilator to blow towards you and dab your face with perfume/ or strong smelling sun screen. Bug repellent only helps for very short periods of time. Luckily the fruit flies come and go within a few days. |
|
Mosquitoes |
Same goes for Mosquitoes After long rain less periods and after big rain showers, the Mosquitoes can come out. Bug repellent only helps for very short periods of time, so re-apply often. We have bug repellent spray and candles available for you to use. We'd rather you not burn anti-mosquito spirals, as they have caused damage in the past and could potentially cause a fire! |
You can also close off each room and spray bug-spray (large spray can called “BOP” we also have available to you) in the air about an hour before you want to use the (bed)room, that way all the bugs that accidentally got in during the day are all wiped out.
